Embrace The Light

My first love
My first dance
My first dinner date
My father
He is unaware that today is different than any other.
His world is what mom tells him to do for the moment.
He follows her requests, asks for direction, easing into his routine.
He used to write rhyming poems with wit and poignancy.
He would leave special notes for her declaring his love and commitment.
He took her around the world.
She drives him down the block.
He loves her, loves us and holds that true today.
Family brings him great joy and comfort and his soul brightens upon our arrival.
Years ago, helpless, knowing this fading of memory was encroaching, dad sought out my help.
“Hold on to what is here and now, enjoy the life you live and we will always love you.”
He brings my mom a rose freshly clipped from the garden,
the color of the winter sunset.
He is my first valentine.
I seem to be captivated by the beauty of these harmonious voices. Their first album has just been released.
Love the way we still call them albums. Watch it in full screen.
It seems as if time is racing by as we move in slow motion. Well, at least that’s how I feel as the year 2012 is coming to a draw. I am hopeful that your year has brought you many positive memories, laughter and good cheer.
This photo was taken in the Sierra Mountains. One early morning I was fortunate to discover a picture window where these lovely frost flakes had formed. At first glance it seemed like the flakes were suspended in air. One shot of the sun’s rays and the vision was gone. Glad I captured it for you. (click on photo to enlarge)
A simple song originally from the musical Oklahoma, James Taylor sets the stage for welcoming in the day.
01 Oh, What A Beautiful Morning’
I shield his eyes to ward off the image
a doe on the side of the roadway, who did not win.
My son fights me
peeling back my fingers
eager to see, yet not.
My last boy spends his summers with me
in the countryside
far from friends and foe.
I’m unable to accept that he is moving on
and opening his eyes to continue
his journey beyond me.
We still have years before he travels off.
Passing no more obstacles
I pull up the laughter
drenching myself in his smiles
denying that college will call him.
Then he too will drive on.
Edgar Cruz works magic with an all-time great Queen song.
Join me on a Laguna Beach Gate & Garden Walking Tour and sneak a peak at some beautifully created outdoor spaces. This is a community called Three Arch Bay named for the great Whale Rock & it’s famous three arches seen at the end of this photo tour.
